Brutal massacre in the Phillipines

Death toll raised to 57 today. The president of Phillipines, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is being pressured to bring the perpetrators of the massacre to justice. A comprehensive search had been warrant, however it could take time to tackle the culture of violence in the country. A group of local politician's supporter and media entourage were travelling to register the politician, Vice Mayor Ismael Mangudadatu were all killed. The dead includes Mangudadatu's relatives and 18 journalists who were covering his campaign. Mangudadatu did not travel with the convoy because he received death threats. The southern Phillipine is one of the most violent area in Asia, riven by religious conflicts.
